Start building community, one room at a time.

You've read Peter Block's Community: The Structure of Belonging.

Now it's time to experience the Six Conversations that Matter® in action.

A non-detailed painting of three people, appearing to all be happy and celebrating.

"How do you change the world? One room at a time. What room? The one you're in."

Belonging doesn’t happen by accident. It’s created through the questions we ask and the space we hold.

Designed Learning offers workshops and resources for practicing the Six Conversations that Matter® to strengthen trust, agency, and connection in every group you lead.

A circle titled "The Structure of Belonging" with six speech bubbles around it, representing the six conversations. Clockwise from top left: an orange speech bubble is titled "The Invitation Conversation" and is subtitled "Mandate vs. Invite"; a teal speech bubble is titled "The Possibility Conversation" and is subtitled "Problem vs. Possibility"; a yellow speech bubble is titled "The Gifts Conversation" and subtitled "Deficiencies vs. Gifts"; a dark blue speech bubble is titled "The Ownership Conversation" and is subtitled "Blame vs. Ownership"; a dark pink speech bubble is titled "The Commitment Conversation" and is subtitled "Barter vs. Commitment"; and a green speech bubble is titled "The Dissent Conversation" and is subtitled “Lip service vs. Dissent”; “Denial vs. Dissent”; “Rebellion vs. Dissent”; and “Resignation vs. Dissent”.

What people are saying

“Leader as Convener is a way of thinking that starts with people — their perspectives, their aspirations, and their capacity to co-create the sustainable development of their communities. It has transformed how I understand and engage with my colleagues.”

-  Martín Hernández, W.K. Kellogg Global Fellows

“As an executive leader, learning the Six Conversations, which are at the center of the Leader As Convener program, was exactly the growth that I needed at this time in my professional career. Already, the Six Conversations are helping me build stronger connections with my colleagues and our business clients. I now feel more confident leading meetings with a new purpose and plan for building collaboration and reaching collective impact.”

- Keith Hickman, IIRP Graduate School
